By Seth Miller

Most companies design and create Italian leather handbags with high quality Italian top calf leather and crocodile and ostrich leather. Italian leather handbags are scratch resistant, durable and lightweight. Available in different colors, Italian leather handbags have their own unique style. Skilled designers come up with new, fresh designs every season. Handmade Italian leather handbags are also available, which are noted for their workmanship.

In Italy, handbag factories usually comprise a small handful of people who specialize in particular areas of handbag making. Italian manufacturers give great importance to providing maximum comfort for the users. So, these bags are light and easy on your back and shoulders. These bags are meant to be used and are also beautiful pieces of artwork.

The vast range of Italian handbags include classic leather handbags, fashionable leather handbags, original leather bags, soft leather handbags, leather bags with long adjustable straps and leather handbags with fashionable accessories. Classic leather handbags are characterized by clean lines which impart a refined look. Fashionable leather handbags are suitable for trendy women. Original leather handbags breathe feminine elegance. Soft leather handbags are beautiful both to the eye and to the touch and those with long adjustable straps allow you to carry them comfortably. Most leather handbags have magnetic closures.

Most Italian leather handbags have two or more interior compartments. They also have one or more interior zippered pockets and one or more outside snap pockets. The inside features of some bags include cell phone holder, business card holder and zippered inside back pockets. Zippered front pockets, double rolled leather handles or double adjustable wooden handles, and beautiful nylon or cotton lining are the attractive characteristics of these bags.

IT'S IN THE BAG

The Observation Post
By Vicki Crawford

In rebuttal to Mrs. Bova's recent commentary on
women's handbags, to each his (or as in this case "her") own. Moreover, much entertainment can be had in consideration of a woman's handbag. Some men will agree that there's nothing more mysterious than the contents of a woman's handbag, or even why women carry them. For women, a handbag can be akin to a no-man's land; a personal private space where men, save for the very foolish, won't boldly go. The question foremost in my mind is why are so many of them so ugly? For some ugly is too kind of a description.

Some have gone past being totally devoid of any type of aesthetics to downright run-over-by-a-Mack-truck ( the truck lost ) hideousness, hellish gruesomeness to stop-a-freight-train misbegotten monstrosity. In some cases putrid roadkill is more aesthetically pleasing. Perhaps the requirement for handbag design is to be a flunky from textile arts. Or maybe the ugliness is to dissuade purse snatchers. Frankly, I hate having to go out and buy one. Forget trying to coordinate with your wardrobe, for me it's a matter of choosing the lesser of two uglies. And I know as soon as I leave the store sales clerks are falling all over each other with laughter, and hi-fiving that another sucker got snared.

With handbags size does matter. On one end of the spectrum you have the foo-foo category which includes anything too small to carry a normal size wallet, and made for fashion rather than utility. These usually have room enough for a tube of lipstick and a compact, suitable for a night out in town or shopping as long as your outfit or dress is accessorized with a well-dressed male with a fat wallet. Then there's the fashion-status category; designer bags with names like Prada and Guicci whose practicality is questionable, but advertises to the spectator that the owner is either very wealthy in order to spend a few hundred to grand or so dollars on something to hang from their arm or shoulder, or very foolish.

Moving right along there's the statement bag; handbags which indicate some political, theological, social, or personal statements, or a souvenir of some past respite or vacation taken (or some holiday that you want others to think you have taken). Advertising firms should take note for here's a potential showcase to exploit. Imagine a handbag with a running advertisement thread or changing format (like some of our modern day billboards) to promote some product or service that also pays the owner some greenbacks to display. Moving up to the mid-size category, or what I call "utility", you'll find a large array of handbags, plain or fancy, that will fit a variety of purposes. Some are nothing more than a textile container with a handle while others have an abundance of pockets, compartments, and slots for anything ranging from small change, credit cards, cell phones, etc.

These are the everyday workhorses of the handbag world, filling a vital niche for a broad spectrum of women from student to housewife to working girl.. Contents will vary but the standard seems to be for many women a wallet, brush, some cosmetics, and some other female necessities. A mutation of the utility handbag is the business edition with is more like an office organizer or a soft briefcase for the student or businesswoman. Big enough for a few electronics like a laptop computer. The final category is industrial; these handbags being large enough to compete with duffle bags, backpacks, small suitcases and the like, and not for weaklings either. Most women who favor these either are well muscled and/or possess enough body weight to counteract the gravitational pull of these behemoths. Contents; anything is possible, and some women will agree that some kind of locator technology would be most beneficial. These bags can also do double-duty as a personal protection device against purse snatchers, mashers, and anyone else who needs a good bop upside the head.

As a young woman I wasn't in the habit of carrying any type of handbag mainly because they always seemed to get into the way of doing something. One hand was usually tied up holding the blasted thing, or trying to keep it from slipping off my shoulder, but as I grew older I learned that they have proved to be invaluable in many situations in spite of some of their drawbacks. Children, especially small ones, make a handbag a necessity, and preferably the larger the better. Some harried mothers tote handbags like pack mules hauling panniers, carrying half their household even on a short trip for some milk and bread at the corner convenience store.

The well-prepared mother can whip out at a moment's notice a bottle, snack, a favorite toy, a change of clothing, first aid components, etc., or aspirin and earplugs for the oncoming headache.
I imagine what really got me into the habit (though I don't always do it) of carrying a handbag was my service in the military. There I started carrying some kind of ditty bag and/or my A.L.I.C.E. pack depending on the situation, and later I replaced the ditty bag with an aviation helmet bag which was given to me by a staff NCO. What I carried depended on the situation. In garrison it was extra set of trousers and blouse in case part of my uniform got trashed during work (started after getting accidently doused with diesel fuel one day and not having a change of clothing), reading or study material, notepad, extra pens, a knife, some food, and a canteen.

During the war, my A.L.I.C.E. pack carried my NBC gear and some MRE's but also my poncho and liner, extra bandages, extra ammo (freebies from the Army), parachute cord (a million and one uses), velco straps tiedowns, duct tape, note pad and pens, some hand tools, and a self-made survival kit (sewing kit, firestarter, heat tabs, extra matches, wire saw, compass, etc.). What didn't fit inside got tied to the outside such as the machete, extra sheath knife, rope, boots, and an extra water bottle. Don't laugh. It probably weighed as much as a full combat load (usual combat load is 80 pounds), but everything was used at one time or another, and there was many a time that I or someone else was grateful that I carried around so much "junk". Too bad they didn't have Robo-grip pliers back then. Sure some things can do double duty like the tip of a knife being used as a screwdriver in a pinch, but you can't beat having an actual screwdriver when you really need one. Moreover, many of you men understand how invaluable a roll of duct tape is in numerous situations.

A clean piece of T-shirt or desert scarf with a strip of duct tape and you had an emergency bandage. It was great for temporarily patching up holes and tears in MOPP suits and ponchos, leaks in hoses, or to shut up some bonehead that couldn't keep his mouth shut. I also carried extra smokes, an invaluable commodity for trading or breaching social barriers. Working as a mate on charter tours, it paid to get the biggest beach bag available and fill it with wet weather gear, a few tools, flashlight, bug juice, a couple of towels, wipes, some kind of portable food items, extra water, whatever could come in handy out on the water. Like some folk, I subscribe to the condom principle; better to have it and not need it than to need it an not have it.

Nowadays I've downsized to a utility size container which doesn't go any where without my Leatherman and a little LED light. And some aspirin and Rolaids just in case I get stuck in traffic.

And a paperback book, a notepad, extra pen....
